This tall cabinet is an exploration in using the language of functional furniture construction as a metaphor for human situations. "Lean" is a figurative piece in human-scale proportions. Box-joint construction allows slats to form curved, open sides. As the two cabinets lean into each other, the slatted sides interlace together and the cabinets intersect. Each one-legged single cabinet finds more stability by meshing with a mate to form the double cabinet. Still, the piece is unable to balance on only two legs as a freestanding object, and must lean against the wall for support. The title "Lean" describes not only the physical structure of the object, but also the psychological state of codependency.
