Bear is a visual exploration of what we chose to endure, what we are able to carry, and when we start to cave. In his essay, "Objects Built in a Realm of Total Permission: Studio Furniture and Its Strategies", American furniture historian Glenn Adamson says that Bear is "evocative of an emotional burden, though perhaps the self-imposed kind. . . it has the appearance of a body struggling to hold up a barely tolerable weight."

The double vessel is made from solid mahogany that has been coopered into tapered cylinders and then carved. The copper hardware was hand forged by the artist.
